Out of all the methods of communicating online, social networking is notably the most popular.  Methods of this include FB, Twitter, IG, Snap, and LinkedIn to name a few. FB started in the early 2000s and at the time was only available to college students with valid school email accounts.  Once popularity grew, FB expanded its audience and later opened for everyone to use.  From there, the birth of social interacting was born.

The Internet is fundamentally a way for people to communicate since its creation. Communication began in the 70s when people began to send emails to other users who were not centrally located near them. “Email is one of the most fundamental internet communication tools”, and the oldest. “The most obvious difference between webcasts and podcasts is that a webcast involves both audio and visual content.  Podcasts are just audio.” (info.workcast.com) When I think about the webcast, The Dave Ramsey Show comes to mind.  You have the opportunity for live chat with an onsite guest, the opportunity to take live calls, etc.  Lots of interactions and you can see what is going on.  Dave also has a podcast on iHeart radio where you just have prerecorded audio and it’s placed on the app where you can continue to play the content until something new is uploaded.

Other methods like blogs, streaming media, and podcasts also took off in the 2000s making it easily accessible for content creators to reach their target markets.  Wikis are online collaboration tools. Two great examples of a wiki are WikiLeaks and Wikipedia and the great thing about both is they are fact-checked.  Blogs are an easy way to place content online and communicate with whomever your target audience is.  The difference between the two is a wiki is owned by many where a blog is owned by one.

“Streaming refers to any media content – live or recorded – delivered to computers and mobile devices via the internet and played back in real-time.” (www.verizon.com) Streaming media would incorporate webcasts, podcasts, content you see on your social media platform, Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, and Disney+ to name a few.  All you need to stream is a device, high-speed internet, and a subscription.

E-Commerce and M-Commerce

From my research, these two have different meanings but aim to do the same thing; make the lives of the end-users better.

Ecommerce is buying and selling online.  You can think of Walmart, Amazon, Target, Alibaba, etc. to name a few of the big online relators.

M-Commerce is a subcategory of e-commerce that focuses on purchases being made via a mobile device. This method allows the delivery of electronic commerce capabilities directly in the hands of the consumer. Using M-Commerce, you can gain better customer insights which enhances the customer experience while increasing revenue.
